The Banda Sociale Folkloristica di Castello Tesino was born in 1901 when Martino Braus purchased instruments for a group of 25 members under the guidance of "Signor Müller". In 1903, at their first official performance at the band competition in Trento during the Vigilian Festivals, they placed with honor among thirteen competing bands. In 1909, the first statute was drafted, approved by the Imperial Royal Lieutenancy of Innsbruck.
The band's history is marked by epochal challenges: the 1916 evacuation during the Great War when the town was completely destroyed, reconstruction with Bohemian instruments, the golden period 1925-29 under Maestro Anacleto Flacco with 45 members, and the post-war renaissance of 1946. In 1981 it adopted traditional Tesino costumes becoming a folkloristic band. Since 2003 it has been led by Maestro Ivan Villanova.
2001 marked the centenary of foundation under the presidency of Raffaella Muraro, with a band festival and publication of the book "Note di Cent'Anni". In 2003 began the fruitful collaboration with Maestro Ivan Villanova, who combines the uniqueness of Tesino attire, solid repertoire and international experience to bring the band to ever greater success.
The 90s and 2000s saw prestigious international tours: Thuringen Austria (1991), Erfurt and Weimar Germany (1997), UN Palace Geneva for "Les Hommes des Images", Salzburg Austria (2000). In 2008 it represented Trentino at the "Folk Music Festival" in Rome, followed by successes at Blasmusikertreffen Wolfsberg Austria (2010) and FASK Festival Rovigno Croatia (2016).
In September 2018, under the presidency of Claudio Costa, it reached a great milestone: invitation as the only Italian ensemble to the Shanghai Tourism Festival. A week in the Chinese megacity where it distinguished itself before numerous audiences, winning the Best Popularity Award among 57 participating groups from around the world. A success that brought new enthusiasm and innovative ideas.
